Fosterering

Do you love cats? Would you like to help unwanted, homeless cats? if so fostering for Cats Protection is for you, and all it costs is your time.

Being a fosterer involves taking in cats and kittens that need to be re-homed, getting them vet checked and ready for homing. You receive full support from other members of the Branch and there is always someone to turn to for help and advice, and, of course, you make many new friends, human and feline. Food, litter and all other expenses such as vet bills, travelling costs etc are paid by Cats Protection. Cats Protection provides the cat pens for your garden, similar to those you see at boarding catteries. You can have as many or as few as you like, depending on the space available. Some of our fosterers have one or two pens; others have a run of three or more, or if you have a spare room we can supply a penthouse pen to get you started.

The East Devon Branch of Cats Protection covers a very wide area of East Devon, totalling about 400 square miles. The post codes of areas covered include, EX5, EX8 to EX13, EX15, EX24 and DT7. We rescue and re-home cats who are strays, or who are unwanted.

If you think this is something you would like to do please phone 01884 277929 or use the contact us form.

Other ways to Help

As  a charity we rely totally on our members' subscriptions, donations, legacies and the support of members and the general public at our fund raising events.  You can become a member of the Branch for £5.00 per annum (£3.00 for senior citizens & juniors).  We communicate regularly with our members by means of a newsletter full of cat stories and colour photographs of our rescue cats and other interesting  titbits.  To become a member of the branch please contact the membership secretary, Jose Allan edcats@btinternet.com or download the membership form.

We take advantage of the Inland Revenue Gift Aid Scheme whenever possible so, if you are a tax payer, you can help the cats by completing a Gift Aid form which will increase every £1.00 you give to £1.25.  Please request a form from the Membership Secretary.   Every penny of the money we raise is used to maintain the needy cats in our area.  If you are able to give us a donation, however small, it would be most gratefully received and you can be sure it will be used for the cats.

As well as the need for money, there is always a need for voluntary helpers in different sections of our work.  We need  to keep a list of car drivers willing to transport cats from A to B, sometimes at short notice.  Helpers are needed to undertake home checks before we can home a cat or kitten.  We always need people to make items to sell at our events or to collect suitable items from our members or the general public.  From time to time, during busy periods, we may need 'hands on' help at one or more of our Foster Homes.

If you would like to help, please contact the events coordinator for donations of goods, raffle prizes, or assistance at fund raising activities and events; our Shop Manageress if you would like to help in the shop or have items suitable for re-sale, or the Branch Secretary for general help, donations of goods or other enquiries.  Donated goods can be collected by prior arrangement.
